Since the early 1900s, when De Beers introduced diamonds to the world through one of its most significant marketing campaigns, diamonds have been the most popular choice for engagement rings.

We are all familiar with the famous slogan "Diamonds are forever" which is just one of many well-targeted marketing slogans used by De Beers for decades. However, it wasn't just marketing; a diamond is the finest known gemstone. In this article, we will discuss the major alternatives to diamonds that are currently available.

WHY DIAMONDS?

The phrase "Diamonds are forever" is used because diamond is the strongest naturally occurring substance known to humans. These precious stones are superior in all respects, including hardness, brilliance, and sparkle. However, don't worry; we'll keep this brief and explain why the other stones are poor alternatives.

Even though diamond is the hardest substance on Earth, it must be handled with extreme care. If you knock your ring too hard, you may damage the girdle of your diamond or, worse, lose it entirely because the safety mechanism of the setting may be compromised.

WHY NOT MOISSANITES?

Moissanites are less durable than diamonds. Diamonds are four times harder than moissanites.

These are not white stones. The majority of moissanites have a lower color grade than diamonds. The majority of moissanites have a brown hue, making them appear dark in low light.

Moissanites have iridescent sparkles. The diamonds' sparkles are white. These rainbow-like glints catch the eye and resemble costume jewelry.

Moissanites have double refraction. This means that when a moissanite is viewed from above, it is possible to see where the facets meet. As a result, there are two lines - two joins - rather than just one - the join.

WHY NOT WHITE SAPPHIRES?

White sapphires lack light reflection. A diamond, when viewed from above, reflects light like a mirror. As a result, it is impossible to see through a diamond from the top. White sapphires do not reflect light; it passes through them directly.

White sapphires lack the brilliance of diamonds. As sapphires lack the ability to reflect light, they lack the brilliance of diamonds, which is another distinguishing characteristic between the two.

White sapphires have a brief existence. Even though it outperforms other stones, sapphire is a poor choice for the center stone of an engagement ring because it can chip over time. Sapphires are ten times softer than diamonds.

Because of its clarity and resistance to scratching, white sapphire is ideal for the glass of all luxury watches.

WHY NOT CUBIC ZIRCONIA?

Cubic Zirconia has porosity. The stone will retain its luster for approximately 10 to 30 uses. Due to contact with hand creams and dirt, the pores of the stone become dull.

Cubic zirconia is vulnerable to scratching and chipping. As a result of its fragility, the stone's surface is susceptible to scuffs and dulling, preventing its owner from experiencing long-term pleasure.

Cubic Zirconia may appear similar to diamonds at first glance, but it is not suitable for daily wear because it is not durable.

Be wary of businesses that use marketing terms such as "diamond simulants" and similar phrases. It is merely a pretty package containing the mediocre filling.
